Most people searching for a garage floor coating start with the word "epoxy" because that is the word the big-box aisle uses. What they actually want is the result: a hard, glossy, easy-to-clean floor that does not fail. Cures in 24 Hours Instead of a Week
Traditional 100% solids epoxy needs three to seven days of cure before vehicle traffic. For a family with two working adults and a driveway full of cars, that is a week of rearranging life. Polyaspartic reaches foot-traffic hardness within a few hours and full vehicle traffic in roughly 24, so a Friday install means you are parked inside on Saturday.
It also installs across a far wider temperature window — down near freezing and up through a humid Carolina August — so we are not cancelling on you in July or January.
Roughly 4x Stronger Than a DIY Epoxy Kit
A hardware-store kit is typically a water-based epoxy applied at 2 to 3 mils. Our system builds a professional-grade film several times that thickness with dramatically higher tensile strength and elongation. In practice:
- Impact resistance. A dropped socket wrench or bike pedal chips a thin epoxy; polyaspartic flexes and absorbs it.
- Abrasion resistance. Grit tracked in from Apex clay acts like sandpaper. A polyaspartic topcoat is the sacrificial layer that takes it.
- Thermal cycling. Polyurea stays flexible as the slab expands and contracts, which is precisely what stops hot-tire pickup on garage floors.
- Chemical resistance. Oil, gas, brake cleaner, salt and pool chemicals wipe off instead of etching in.
UV-Stable: It Will Not Turn Yellow
Standard epoxy is an aromatic resin. Expose it to sunlight and it ambers — the classic yellow-tinted garage floor near a west-facing door or a glass garage door. Polyaspartic is aliphatic and UV-stable, so the clear coat stays clear and the flake blend you chose is the color you see in five years. That property is also what makes it the right choice for outdoor patios and pool decks.
What a One-Day Install Actually Looks Like
7:00 am — Grind and prep
Everything comes out of the garage, then diamond grinders with HEPA vacuums profile the slab. Cracks are chased out and filled with rigid polyurea; joints are detailed.
10:00 am — Polyurea base and flake
The pigmented polyurea base is rolled and vinyl flake is broadcast to refusal while it is wet. The floor is completely covered — no thin spots, no bare patches.
1:00 pm — Scrape and vacuum
Excess flake is scraped back and vacuumed, which is what produces a smooth, even texture instead of a gritty one.
3:00 pm — Polyaspartic topcoat
The clear UV-stable topcoat goes down, optionally with a grip additive. Walk on it that evening; park on it the next day.
